A story I never planned, unfolding one song at a time.
When I started Willow Ashgrove, the plan was simple — a bunch of poppy tavern songs, not really connected to anything. But as I actually started writing them, something I hadn't planned for took over: it became clear she was on a journey, and that the songs, played in order, tell the story of this part of her life.
It amazes me how a path I never knew was there just unfolds on its own — like the statue already waiting inside the marble. Once you can see it, you have no choice but to keep traveling down it with her.
The songs stopped being all poppy, too. Some became long, meaningful ballads — whatever fit where she was on the road.
I'm only partway through chapter one. I still don't know what turns it will take or where she ends up, but I'm excited to find out. Watching a whole story come to life out of nothing makes me even happier every time I sit down to work on her songs.
